You're stupid, I'm smart?

It now seems another world, a lost world, when I heard thoughtful discussions on guns, abortion, religion, taxes, education, the environment or even what it meant to be a Republican or a Democrat.

For me, discussion was always stimulating, a place where you could always learn and sometimes teach with everyone benefiting—if not agreeing, at least understanding a bit better.

It is what I found attractive about politics then and the lack of it so disagreeable now.

The “other side” on almost any issue is now ignorant, evil, deserving of abuse, and occasionally now even violence.

In all society's leaders lead, but in a democracy people choose to either follow the leader, or change the leaders they have.
