Voter's Self-Defense System

Takes Names and Kicks Butt

Today unveiled a liar’s trap with its new website. New interactive tools enable citizens to expose politicians’ factual records on the issues voters consider most important. Backing the system are over 1.3 million keyword searchable speeches, 17,000 key votes by elected officials (described in simple, easy-to-understand terms), and the grades that 1,469 special interest groups have given to the 15,305 candidates Vote Smart covers nationwide. All easily reviewed by candidate and issue of interest.

Walker McKusick, Vote Smart’s National Director, stated, " is new and explosively powerful for 2020! Using dynamic, responsive design, Vote Smart is easier to access on any device - desktop, tablet or phone. A clean display makes the facts simpler to read and faster to get. Our powerful tools are available from any page and allow voters to instantly compare candidates, find the big lies and expose each candidate's factual record. Vote Smart's website has gotten just as smart as we hope voters will be."

Premiering on the new site and tooled so voters can do their job and BE THE BOSS:

ISPY, enabling voters to pick any of 40,000+ politicians and review Vote Smart’s extensive factual database in any of six files – biographies, votes, issue positions, ratings, speeches and funding.

BULL, which, in collaboration with, Politifact and the Washington Post, highlights some of the candidates’ most egregious lies within Vote Smart’s 1.3 million public statements database.

Political Galaxy allows voters to select any issue and instantly arrive at every fact related to that issue on any candidate they choose.

Presidential VoteEasy, which allows voters to pick the key issues most important to them and then instantly see which candidates are most likely to agree with them. The Presidential version is up right now and the congressional edition will be up as candidates file.

My Vote Smart, perhaps the most important tool of all, allowing voters to be the boss and track the future conduct of those who represent them or wish to replace them.
