On April 15th, 2024, the United States House of Representatives passed the No U.S. Financing for Iran Act of 2023 by a 294 to 105 vote. The bill prohibits specific actions in relation to imports, exports, and financing components associated with Iran. Specifically, prohibiting the Department of the Treasury from authorizing U.S. financial institution transactions, as it pertains to technology, goods and service importation and exportation to Iran. On April 20th, 2024, the United States House of Representatives passed the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024, by a 311 to 112 vote. The bill authorizes Fiscal Year 2024 supplemental appropriations for federal departments and agencies to respond to the conflict in Ukraine. Supporting the current U.S. military in the region, Ukraine economic support, and funding the Foreign Military Financing Program are a few of many purposes included in this bill. Further specific aspects include ensuring the President enters into an agreement with Ukraine to repay the United States for its economic assistance, requiring the President to export long-range army tactical missiles to Ukraine, and branching out the President’s capabilities of transferring defense components and services from the Department of Defense to global countries. It went on to the United States Senate for approval and, alongside the Israel and Taiwan aid, was passed by a vote of 79 to 18 and signed into law by President Biden. This bill, which was passed by a vote of 366 to 58, would authorize $26 billion in weapons and humanitarian aid. It went on to the United States Senate for approval and, alongside the Ukraine and Taiwan aid, was passed by a vote of 79-18 and signed into law by President Biden. On April 20th, 2024, the United States House of Representatives voted in favor of the Indo-Pacific Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024. Passed by a vote of 385-34, this bill would authorize federal agencies to support U.S. allies and activities in the Indo-Pacific region and designates this funding as emergency spending, which makes it exempt from discretionary spending limits.
